Stress Reducer

Q. Are there any non-proprietary stress reducers that can be used in a nickel sulfamate plating bath? C.P.

A. There are many additives that can be used to reduce stress in a nickel sulfamate plating. The key component of all of these additives is an organic molecule containing a sulfur atom. Some examples of stress-reducing additives are saccharin and the sodium salts of naphthalene trisulfonic acid and dibenzene sulfonic acid. Even though many materials are available for stress reduction, I suggest you work with your chemical vendor to obtain the best additive for your particular bath.
