I’m trying to find a spec sheet on products called Passa-Jell-107 and Passa-Jell-101. Not sure that that is the correct spelling. Is it used for cleaning and/or passivating metal? W.P.
I was not able to find any technical information on this product. Based on the name, it sounds like a product that is in semi-solid form (i.e., a jell) and is used for passivating metal. When welding stainless steels, it is necessary to repassivate the weld and the heat affected zone surrounding the weld bead. This is often accomplished in a 20-30% nitric acid tank.
This method of passivation becomes much more difficult when welding large pieces. Since the affected area needs some exposure time to the acid in order to be effective, the manufacturer probably made a jell with nitric acid. This thick mixture will allow it to be applied to a vertical surface and give it enough contact time to be effective. It should also minimize acid dripping and puddles. It sounds like it could be a very useful product to those making large structures. I would ask any readers knowledgeable with this to forward information to me and I will pass it on to W.P.blog comments powered by Disqus
