AMT Machine Systems, Ltd. provides innovative, modular motion control components and systems to the automation industry.
AMT is a technical member of PMPA and works with precision machined product manufacturers. AMT’s core competency is control software, and its most popular product today is the ServoCam system.
“We have historically been in the business of upgrading machines for our customers to either partial or full CNC,” says Greg Knight, vice president of machine tool automation at AMT. “About 5 years ago, we began supplying an entire machine tool.”
ServoCam UltraTurn XL machines are robust, CNC screw machines equipped with the CyberNet CNC control system that coordinates multiple tools simultaneously and provides localized control. The machines are easier to troubleshoot with automatic monitoring and reduce costs for machine shops by requiring less cabling, easy maintenance and greater productivity.
“One of my first priorities when I came to AMT was to join PMPA as a tech member,” Mr. Knight says. “We’re a niche manufacturer that serves primarily PMPA members and our own membership helps us serve them better in many ways.”
Mr. Knight believes the company’s PMPA membership to be vital for a variety of reasons including the ability to network with shop owners and other technical members, gaining insight into the industry and general learning that AMT’s team can do through the membership.
“The kinds of machine shops that AMT can benefit the most tend to be the ones that are PMPA members, so it’s a very good fit for us,” Mr. Knight explains. “There are tremendous opportunities available to network with other tech members and shop owners. Even if they aren’t shops that would be customers, we can get really good information on what people are looking for that helps us improve our products and services.”
Mr. Knight described PMPA networking as an excellent forum for research among everyone in the industry.
“We participate in the association on a regular basis by monitoring the listserve topics and answering questions in our areas of expertise and reading up on the information that other members provide. I’m always amazed at all of the sharing among members,” says Mr. Knight.
“The collaboration lets our team grow its knowledge base and hopefully help others. The information coming through PMPA is valuable in our company.
“We always participate in the tech conference and show, someone from the company attends all of the annual meetings, and we try to send people to the local meetings as often as possible,” Mr. Knight says. “We use our membership as fully as we possibly can.”
