Erie County Executive have honored American Tinning and Galvanizing Company with the May EXCEL Award, which honors businesses that go above and beyond in Erie County in Pennsylvania.
Barry Grossman presented the award to Robin Scheppner, President and Managing Owner for American Tinning and Galvanizing.
The family-run business specializes in metal finishing to prevent corrosion on aluminum and steel, however American Tinning and Galvanizing and its employees also give back to the community, raising money for the United Way.
"We have a healthy volunteer program here, where we do Adopt-a-Highway and other things," says Scheppner. "Our employees are getting out and giving their services back. That's one thing we're most proud of. The bottom line is always important, but we're especially proud of our culture, mutual respect and caring about our community."
American Tinning and Galvanizing has been serving the Erie community for 80 years. It provides services for many businesses in the region, including General Electric, LORD Corportation, AccuTool and AccuTech.
The company was founded in 1931 by Fred Carlson and is a third generation, family owned business specializing in the corrosion control of metal, steel and aluminum by providing “finishing” services. The metal finishing processes offered include hot dip galvanizing, zinc electroplating, cadmium electroplating, cold black oxide, and black phosphate. The aluminum finishes include sulfuric acid anodizing, chromic acid anodizing, chromate conversion coatings and, “two step” architectural bronze anodizing.
American Tinning and Galvanizing employs over 63 employees, working 24 hours a day, 5 days a week. The company occupies 72,000 square feet of production, fabrication and warehouse space on the same corner it did for nearly 80 years.
