Getting Government Attention (In a Good Way)

British Member of Parliament Jim Cunningham with Wickman’s managing director, Chris Barrett, during Mr. Cunningham’s recent visit to company headquarters.

Wickman, a venerable multi-spindle machine builder based in Coventry, England, recently hosted a visit from its local Member of Parliament (MP), Jim Cunningham, to meet with Wickman’s managing director, Chris Barrett.

The reason for Mr. Cunningham’s visit was to see first hand how the company has managed to weather the tumultuous last couple of decades without aid from the government. That sounds familiar to us. He was especially interested by the factory and process advances that the company has put into manufacturing its line of multispindle turning equipment.

Moving forward, Wickman is investing in its apprentice program for worker training and making capital investments in the plant facility to help expand globally into markets outside Great Britain. It’s nice to see interest from an MP or any official from any national government in the manufacture and continuation of domestic machine tool manufacture--or at least making an effort.
