World Machine Tool Output & Consumption Survey

Metalworking plants in the United States keep expanding after the 2008-2009 plunge, installing $8.7 billion worth of productive new machine tools last year, according to the most recent annual World Machine Tool Output & Consumption Survey. That figure is a 19-percent improvement from the year before, and it represents an all-time high, slightly surpassing previous peaks in 2008 and in 1998. Imported equipment represents a high percentage of those installations.
