The Right Stuff: How to Get the Ideal Powder Finish for your Parts  10/01/09
Experienced finishers know that the protective value of a coating depends on many variables in addition to the specific topcoat material. The total process determines coating fitness, not just the material itself. Here's a look at the important considerations when selecting a coating material and process.

Powder Palace  03/01/09
When Rogers Group expanded its Clare, MI, facility, managers decided to build the addition large enough to accommodate a new ?state of the art? powder coating system that included many features aimed at managing the group?s wide variety of products. By putting the powder operation on display, it would also be a showplace for the company's commitment to first-class manufacturing and product quality.

Beyond Pollution Control: A look at coatings from a life cycle perspective  10/01/08
There is a market trend on the near horizon that is putting the environment back on the radar in a way that may be unfamiliar to most finishers. As the name implies, "product sustainability" shifts the focus of environmental concern from the manufacturing process to the finished product. It?s primarily driven not by government regulation but by consumer demand. Sustainability-conscious customers want to know about the whole life-cycle of the products they purchase. In other words, they care about the coating from cradle to grave: what environmental impacts occurred when the raw materials of the coating were extracted and refined, when the coating was formulated, when it was applied to the coated product, and when the coating solids are disposed of at the end of the product?s life.

Quality, Italian-Style  07/01/08
Some facilities that coat architectural aluminum have exceptional operations that constantly measure and control the highest possible standards for appearance and performance. One such company is Hydro Aluminum Colors (Ornago, Italy). The company processes 70,000 tons of aluminum a year?more than 50 tons a day?so managers are very serious about quality. The high volume of product being coated, coupled with high standards for coating performance, places very challenging demands on quality control at the plant. Not only must the coating be of top-notch quality, but also the cost of a defect is enormous. The pressure to produce a very high-quality finish with very low defect rates defines the operation at Ornago. Quality is not just a stated policy; it is a steady and unwavering reality.

By 2005, paint line managers had a target: to increase powder coating throughput by 70%. They did it by installing high-density, low-volume (HDLV) powder application technology.

Pumping Up Paint Productivity  05/01/08
In today?s hyper-competitive business environment, robotic paint processes are being reshaped to offer users a wide variety of benefits, including more efficient coating application, reduced equipment requirements for application, and ?greener? processes that can apply coatings safely, with less waste and power consumption.
