2015 New England Surface Finishing Regional Conference

It is that time of year and again we ask for your support by committing one day of your time to this year's regional conference. Your loyalty to this conference over the years has enabled this event to gain national recognition with the National Association of Surface Finishers and major suppliers of metal finishing products.

It is your continued support that enables us to strive for what many feel is the best regional in the country, both from a standpoint of quality and affordability.

A Sustainable Approach to Electroless Nickel: Matt’s presentation provides a historical overview of where sustainable practices have touched our industry, review of a fully integrated sustainable EN technology and a glimpse to what the future of our industry may look like in an ever increasing eco-conscious world.

9:50am – 10:20am Jordan Rose – Oxford Instruments America, Inc.

Process Control Electronic Instrumentation: Jordan’s presentation focuses on the use of X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analysis & Electromagnetic gauges used for materials identification, thickness gauging and controlling processes to specification. 

10:35am – 11:00am Gregory Mager – The Paint Project, Inc.

Powder Coating: Powder Coating is a unique type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. Greg’s presentation will detail the process and cover the equipment required to perform the process.

The Treatment of Metal Bearings Waste Streams:  Basics of precipitation, coagulation, liquid Solids separation, treatment of highly chelated alloy solutions & reducing salts generated during treatment to promote water re-use.

OSHA/Health & Safety: Dale’s presentations are always informative & upbeat. His style of presenting information is as such that you will learn something, and you won’t be nodding off!

Plating on plastics: There are many types of plastics parts whose functions are better served when the properties of both metal & plastic are combined. Fran’s presentation will review the process and the associated chemistries.

2:10pm – 2:40pm Bill Kozane – SIFCO Applied Surface Technology (ASC)

Brush Plating:  There are many applications for brush plating of which includes the buildup or repair of specific areas on parts that cannot be tank plated. Bill’s presentation will provide an overview of the process including the associated equipment and tooling.

2:55pm – 3:20pm Jeff Bibeau – Tighe & Bond

Air Quality Regulations: Air Quality/Emission regulations relating to metal finishing facilities are comprehensive and in many instances difficult to determine applicability. Jeff will review the many air quality regulations that apply to our industry and which ones may apply to your facility.

3:30pm – 4:00pm Robert Rio – Associated Industries of Mass.; Katherine Robertson – MA Chemistry & Tech. Alliance

TURA: The Baker administration has provided a window of opportunity for industry input regarding policies & regs that impact operations & bottom line. Katherine & Bob will update us on this program as to how the information will be used to make tangible changes in the TURA program.

4:15pm – 4:50pm Jeff Hannipal – The Policy Group

Regulatory Update: Jeff will discuss the hot button regulatory issues the Policy Group is engaging and their potential impact on our industry. Jeff’s presentation & his willingness to network & associate with attendees throughout the day is of great value to this event.
