Corrosion Risk Management

Risk management has become an important requirement in many industries and an indispensable tool for today's corrosion and materials engineers. Risk management of corrodible systems presents many challenges given the complexity of the material degradation processes and the long time-frames over which corrosion may affect a given system.
Corrosion and materials engineers are responsible for numerous corrosion management activities such as: i) the development of life prediction models and standards for materials selection and welding procedures, iii) the design of modern infrastructure, and iv) the coordination and execution of corrosion monitoring and mitigation programs. These corrosion management activities should be placed in the context of system risk management.
