 lsThis presentation features an up-to-date look at pretreatment strategies
  for a variety of metals. &nbsp\;Steel-making techniques have succumbed to
  the cost-cutting measures that now affect almost every industry\, resulti
 ng in substrate of highly variable quality. Job shops and other coaters ne
 ed a robust approach to ensure highest possible finish quality and durabil
 ity.  One of the strengths of modern zirconium pretreatments is their broa
 d adaptability to a range of applications. Tips and strategies for coating
  aluminum\, zinc (galvanized)\, and magnesium will also be discussed.  Fin
 ally\, some techniques for passivation or coating stainless steel will be 
 shared.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;Dr. David B. Chalk&nbsp\;holds B.S.\, M.S.\, and Ph.D
 . degrees in chemistry from the University of Cincinnati. In his 28-year i
 ndustrial career\, he has researched steel making practice\, corrosion mec
 hanisms\, surface science\, and chemical pretreatment applications.  As th
 e inventor of the first zirconium-based sealer application for steel in 19
 95\, Dr. Chalk is the industry&rsquo\;s foremost expert in modern transiti
 on metal pretreatment theory and practice. Currently working in the labora
 tories of DuBois Chemicals\, Dr. Chalk&rsquo\;s focus is on improving appl
 ication of zirconium pretreatments\, research in organic pretreatments\, a
