MEC Group, through its Castolin Eutectic division, announced its acquisition of Whertec Inc., a privately owned company headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida. The company will now operate as a subsidiary of Eutectic Corp. USA.
Founded in 1996, Whertec specializes in the application of boiler coatings to protect against excessive wear, corrosion and erosion at elevated temperatures. The company serves the power, recycling, biomass, steel and pulp/paper industries.
According to Castolin Eutectic, Whertec's strengths complement its own services in the welding, brazing and coating technology industries. Castolin Eutectic has developed metallurgical technologies for more than 100 years. The company reports that acquiring Whertec will create one of the largest laser coating companies in the world.
In addition to expressing his excitement for the acquisition, MEC CEO Siegfried Schabel says, "It will significantly expand our capability to undertake on-site service contracts. We have the technology, and with Whertec we add operational expertise, which will help with the next phase of our global expansion."
Pete Castiglione, owner of Whertec, comments that his company "has consistently grown since its inception in 1996 and the time is right for the next step by taking the company into international markets." He went on to explain how being part of the MEC Group with access to its global network will facilitate the company's vision for expansion.
