Chemetall Acquires its Chinese Joint Venture Company

Originally established in 1995, the Shanghai-based branch has more than 220 employees.

Chemetall (Baton Rouge, Louisiana), a business unit of Albemarle Corp., has acquired its Shanghai Chemetall joint venture and is now the sole owner of the entity. According to Chemetall President Joris Merckx, the transaction is part of the company’s strategic market plans to enhance its global footprint as a surface treatment supplier.

As one of the largest automotive markets in the world, China is a key growth market for Chemetall, as Jin Hui, managing director of Shanghai Chemetall, explains: “With our very strong focus on the automotive market and our long-term relationship with leading automotive manufacturers, we are ideally positioned to further develop the business, provide advanced, innovative technologies to the market, and create value for our customers in this region.” The company expects to participate in the country’s automotive component, coil and cold forming industries.

Originally established as a joint venture with two Chinese partners in 1995, Shanghai Chemetall today houses a recently expanded regional R&D and Technical center and offices with more than 220 employees.
