In an effort to provide industry-competent sources for applying corrosion-resistant coating products, Intech Services (Newark, Delaware) has established its Authorized Fastener Coater program, now approved by DuPont Fluoropolymer Solutions. This program was developed to assure that fastener users receive proper coating application with the use of DuPont's Teflon industrial coating.
Intech's authorized program requires that individual coating shops meet a strict list of standards and testing requirements proving their ability to apply the coating for maximum performance. Specifically, the coater must demonstrate process and quality testing for coating and/or plating processes and prove that it has the proper equipment to do so.
In this process, the coater submits panels with one mil (0.001") of 857G-018 applied over phosphate and then performs a series of tests, including 1,000 hours of salt spray per ASTM B117, crosshatch adhesion testing to ensure proper substrate adhesion, MEK rub testing to ensure proper curing and appearance testing. Passing these tests demonstrates that the coater is able to apply the fastener coatings to withstand the environments for which they are engineered.
"Product stewardship is extremely important to any coating that is honored enough to carry the DuPont Teflon brand," says Intech Vice President Chris Dohl. "An authorized fastener coater network is the only way to ensure that our new fastener coating line is being applied correctly. This will enable the end user to be confident that they will get the performance that they have come to expect from any of the DuPont Teflon finishes."
