Enthone (West Haven, Connecticut) recently conducted a series of seminars titled “Plating-on-Plastics and Decorative Base Metals” in Barcelona, Spain; Łódź, Poland; and Merklingen, Germany. The seminars provided an enhanced understanding of specific industry issues, technologies and regulatory requirements confronting decorative platers. Over 150 automotive OEMs and applicators serving the automotive, building/sanitary and decorative industries participated.
Specifically, the seminars in Spain and Germany featured Voice of the Customer (VOC) presentations by leading automotive OEMs and Tier 1 applicators. European plating associations actively participated at each location, with Denis Thery, general secretary of UITS, detailing the impact of new regulations on the European plating industry to the Barcelona participants. The Germany and Poland seminars included an overview of the increasing demand for plating complex plastic parts by Eugene Wiedel, of Styrolution GmbH.
Technologies presented included high-performance pretreatment systems; cyanide-free and acid copper technologies; semi-bright, bright and satin nickel processes; and dark, lustrous trivalent chrome solutions.
