Bernard Downey passed away January 26, at the age of 88. He was founder and president of B.L. Downey Co., a Broadview, Ill.-based company specializing in ecoat and powder coating. Downey was considered to be a pioneer in the finishing industry. In the 1950s, he sold plastisol coatings to finishers, and then in 1956 opened his own shop to apply plastisols and powder coatings. In 1962, he installed electrostatic spray equipment for powder coating, some of the first in the United States.
