Hartchrom Plating Company Signs $16.9 Million Contract with U.S. Army

Hartchrom Inc., a subsidiary of Swiss-based STI Surface Technologies International, signs a $16.9 million contract with the U.S. Army expanding its operation at the Watervliet Arsenal in New York, the Associated Press reports.

Hartchrom leads the coatings and surface finishing operations at the Watervliet Arsenal and is responsible for chrome plating and other finishing applications for cannon barrels used by the U.S. military. According to the STI Group, the company provides chrome coatings for medium to large caliber barrels in the defense industry.

In New York Senator Charles Schumer’s announcement of the contract, Hartchrom was recognized for its 16-year partnership with the arsenal and its installation of more than $4 million in new equipment in 2010. The contract renewal plans to provide for chrome plating, manganese phosphating and dry film lubrication services to the cannon parts.
