Jotun plans to phase out lead chromates from all its paint and coatings formulations worldwide in 2014, substituting safer, high-performing alternatives. This move will put the company in compliance with European REACH regulations and will set it at the forefront when lead chromates are phased out in other markets, Jotun says.
The lead chromate phaseout is consistent with the Jotun GreenSteps environmental initiative, which the company launched in 2011 to improve its environmental performance over a range of areas such as hazardous materials, carbon footprint, reducing VOC emissions, energy consumption and waste.
