PPG Industries has finalized its purchase of Deft Inc., a California-based company that makes specialty coatings for aerospace and industrial applications. Financial terms were not disclosed. Deft has 140 employees split between its Irvine, Calif., headquarters and a plant in Alliance, Ohio. The deal is the latest in a string of acquisitions PPG has made as part of its strategy to position coatings as its dominant business segment. In April, the company closed on the purchase of AkzoNobel’s North American architectural coatings business for $1.05 billion.

Global trade fair organizer Deutsche Messe AG announces renaming its surface finishing O&S Expo to “SurfaceTechnology GERMANY.” The new name is already in effect for the next edition of the international trade fair for surface treatment technology from June 5 to 8 this year in Stuttgart, Germany.
