The American Coatings Association reports that the coatings industry continues to rebound from the historically low level of industry shipments in 2009. This is according to the U.S. Census Bureau's just-released Current Industrial Report for the third quarter of 2010. Third quarter figures again show improvement over 2009, although the industry has yet to return to the level of value and volume seen in 2008.
Total industry shipments in the third quarter were 308 million gallons, with a value of $4.898 billion, up almost 6% in volume and 8.6% in value over the same quarter of 2009.
All coatings segments showed improvement, with Census Bureau reporting third quarter architectural coatings shipments on the rise and OEM and Special Purpose Coatings shipments make greater gains, most likely due to the significant up-tick in the durable goods manufacturing industry.
