LyondellBasell offers TBAc solvent (tertiary-butyl acetate), a VOC-exempt, non-HAP, non-GHG, SNAP-approved replacement for ozone-depleting solvents. It is a potential replacement for n-Propyl Bromide, TCE, PERC, HAP and VOC solvents in cleaning applications. It is approved by the DoD to replace MEK and VOC cleaners in hand-wipe applications for aircraft. The solvent can be used for degreasing and defluxing and can be blended with non-flammable solvents to reduce its flammability. It is also miscible with hydrocarbons, other esters, alcohols, NMP, and ketones. The solvent has limited water solubility but forms a binary azeotrope at 81°C, according to the company. This zero-VOC azeotrope shows good degreasing ability on oils and the potential to replace nPB in vapor degreasing operations. The company also supplies Arconate PC (propylene carbonate), which was declared VOC-exempt in 2008 by the U.S. EPA and in 2009 by the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
