IMPCO’s AlumiSeal is a brush-on methacrylate compound formulated to seal porosity in aluminum parts and welds that will contain liquids or gases under pressure. The compound’s chemistry and low dynamic viscosity enable it to wick deeply into pores or seams and between close-fitting, non-ferrous metal surfaces. Once it has cured, any excess material on the surface of the part can be rinsed away with water, leaving the surface clean and ready for painting or other finishing. It does not alter critical surface dimensions, the company says.

Curing in the absence of air, the compound forms a pressure-tight seal that withstands continuous service temperatures as high as 356°F (180°C). Once cured, it has a typical hardness of 78 Shore D (ASTM D2240) and is resistant to a variety of chemicals, including oils, glycol, chlorinated and fluorinated solvents, mild caustics, acid solutions, and water.
