Designed for multi-angle color measurement, the BYK-mac i spectrophotometer from BYK-Gardner objectively detects and quantifies fluorescent light excited in the visible range. Additional out-of-plane sensors measure the fluorescent light in clearly defined wavelength ranges.
To quantify the fluorescent light, the spectrophotometer calculates an index called the “intensity emission value,” which can be used as a preliminary indicator for light fastness. It also uses flake characterization and multi-angle color measurement to objectively measure total color impression of effect coatings.
The machine features stable LED illumination that enables fluorescent color measurements to be repeated with one BYK-mac without warm-up time or temperature drift, and reproduced from BYK-mac to BYK-mac without lamp aging. This then enables digital standards to be employed along the complete supply chain.
Other features include a shape designed for portability; menu-guided operation; a large, easy-to-read color display; and trigger pins on the bottom plate that guarantee stable readings on flat and curved samples. For further analysis and professional documentation of measurement results, the instrument also comes with “smart-chart” software for process control and lab analysis, including an online mode.
