Calvary Industries’ Cal Prep RK1469 is a water-based, dry-in-place metal pretreatment that operates at ambient temperature and is said to be safe for mild steel washers. The solution is applied after a cleaning step and rinses in a multi-stage washer, and then dries on the part in a dry-off oven. It also can be rinsed with DI Halo in e-coat applications without reducing performance, the company says.
According to Calvary, Cal Prep RK1469 improves the impact resistance and flexibility of topcoats over traditional pretreatments, and it has matched the performance of competitive zinc phosphate in SAE-J2334 cyclic testing and ASTM B-117 salt spray testing.
