DeWalt has launched its first cordless full-size band saw, the 20-volt Max XR Brushless Deep Cut Band Saw.

The tool is designed for when a power cord is not always available, such as mechanical, electrical, HVAC, sprinkler and general contractor applications. The new band saw features improved ergonomics, an efficient brushless motor, and the ability to cut a wide variety of materials.

My regular band saw from a different manufacturer weighed in at over 18.2 pounds, and the new DeWalt 20-volt Max XR Brushless Deep Cut Band Saw came in at 13.7 pounds, roughly 4.5 pounds lighter or 25 percent less weight, which is a huge improvement, especially with a with a 5.0Ah battery.

The cordless saw is 1.2 pounds lighter than DeWalt’s corded Band Saw (DWM120). With its magnesium housing and adjustable bail handle and hook, the 20-volt Max XR Brushless Deep Cut Band Saw is lightweight and well-balanced tool.

The saw features a 5-inch by 4-3/4-inch capacity to cut strut, pipe, angle iron, pipe and various other materials. The brushless motor provides extreme runtime, and achieves up to 149 cuts of 1-5/8-inch strut with 14 TPI blade.

The saw also includes a 20-second delay LED light and uses a standard 44-7/8-inch size blade.

Here’s my checklist of great features after trying it out:

  • Lighter weight
  • LED light on the cutting surface
  • Cordless
  • Adjustable handle
  • Handy hanging hook.

The 20-volt Max XR Brushless Deep Cut Band Saw expands Dewalt’s 20V MAX system of tools even further to now include over 70 tools, a wide variety of which are brushless tools. The DCS374 comes standard with a 3-year limited warranty, 90-day money back guarantee, and 1-year free service contract. For information, visit dewalt.com.
