DuPont Vertrel specialty fluids are a family of hydrofluorocarbon-based fluids that offer a wide range of attributes such as low viscosity, low surface tension, and high liquid density that enable effective wetting and ensure superior cleaning performance. In addition to their physical properties, the company says Vertrel specialty fluids have low acute toxicity and are non-flammable.

The fluids were developed to replace ozone-depleting and high-global-warming solvents like CFC-113, 1,1,1-trichloroethane, HCFC-141b, HCFC-123, HCFC-225, and PFCs. According to the company, the fluids have excellent environmental properties, zero ozone depleting potential, and low global warming potential. The company reports that the fluids have been accepted by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) program as substitutes for ozone-depleting substances.

Developed for performance and environmental concerns, these specialty fluids can be used in a wide variety of cleaning applications. The company says Vertrel can be used in a vapor degreaser, as a wet wipe, or in cold cleaning, allowing it to be used for a wide range of cleaning applications.
