DuPont distributor Intech Services has released a new DuPont Teflon industrial coating that provides corrosion resistance of as much as 3,000 salt spray hrs. Specifically engineered for coating off-shore, chemical processing and water treatment fasteners, the water-based, low-VOC coating is targeted towards applications requiring outstanding corrosion resistance, anti‐galling and dry lubrication.
According to Intech, salt spray tests performed by an outside company showed excellent corrosion resistance even without surface pretreatment, although corrosion resistance can be enhanced if used with recommended primers and substrate pretreatments. Fasteners with a zinc basecoat of 0.3 mils are said to have easily passed ASTM testing of less than-10-percent red rust at 3,000 salt spray hrs. Excellent corrosion resistance can also be achieved without pretreatments on aluminum steel and stainless steel substrates, Intech says.
The coatings can be applied to thicknesses of 1-4.5 mils. They currently are available in blue and red colors, and yellow and black colors are expected to be added in the near future.
