LumiShield’s electroplating system enables aluminum films in a variety of thicknesses to be grown on steel or other conductive substrates. The properties of the film are tailored through control of the plating conditions to produce thin, porous coatings which make a good base for e-coat or other organic coatings, or thick, smooth coatings with good corrosion and wear resistance. The process has been specifically designed for ease of implementation in shops of varying sizes and capabilities. 

Unlike commercial aluminum electroplating processes, the LumiShield process is based on ionic liquids, enabling it to be conducted in open vessels without production of organic vapors or interference from atmospheric water. Because the process can be conducted with full exposure to air, it can also be adapted to brush plating, which allows the fabrication of large and irregularly shaped components without the need for major capital equipment installations.
