Birchwood Casey manufactures a line of 12 solvent-based and aqueous inhibitors and sealants to prevent rust and corrosion on metal surfaces. Different product formulations address variables such as the type of metal surface, level of protection needed, and conditions of exposure in handling, shipping and storage.

The company’s eight solvent-based products offer as many as 120 hours of salt-spray protection on a variety of metal surfaces, including raw steel/casting inventory, in-process parts, finished products in distributor warehouses, or parts in long-term storage or overseas shipment. Each rust inhibitor provides protection with either a slightly oily, water-displacing film; a dry-to-touch, non-oily sealant; or a soft-waxy, self-healing film. Two of the products are also available in high-flash-point, low-VOC versions for areas with sensitive air-quality requirements.

The company’s four water-based products offer as many as 48 hours of salt-spray protection and produce a variety of surface appearances. They include a water-dilutable oil, a satin-gloss acrylic wax, a high-gloss urethane polymer sealant and a high-gloss acrylic polymer emulsion. The aqueous products have minimal VOC content and no flash point.

All 12 products are suited for use on tooling, motion control components and automotive parts, and in other applications.
