WEB EXCLUSIVE: A new line of eight aromatic products have expanded the Carbothane line of polycarbonate-based thermoplastic polyurethane (TPUs) from Lubrizol LifeScience Polymers, Cleveland, which encompass a range of grades and radiopacities.
 
The new aromatic materials boast greater material strength, improved chemical resistance and increased resistance to creep. They are targeted to long-term implantation applications, including catheters and devices introduced in the body for durations of more than 30 days, and for permanent implants used in spinal and orthopedic applications. The aromatic Carbothane TPU is available in four clear grades and four radiopaque grades, which include a 20% loading of barium sulfate.
