On display will be Water Star’s new mixed-metal anode coating, formulated to reduce the evolution of chlorine in plating baths and the destruction of chemical additives. The coating is a mixed-metal oxide consisting of iridium oxide and tantalum oxide applied to a titanium structure. The composition of coating is varied to control the electrochemical activity, hence the preferred anodic reaction is oxygen generation. This avoids the loss of chloride ion from the bath, reducing bath maintenance as well as the “chlorine” smell in the plating plant and surrounding areas, the company says. It also reduces oxidation of chemical additives by the chlorine generated.
