Saint-Gobain Abrasives, manufacturer and supplier of performance-engineered abrasives, introduces Norton Blaze R920 ceramic alumina flap wheels that are designed to deliver a smooth, consistent finish with a fast, cool uniform rate of cut.

According to the company, the wheels are ideal for aggressive grinding and precision finishing, blending, deburring, cleaning and producing uniform finishes on tough parts that are manufactured in hard-to-grind materials including super alloys, stainless steel, and cobalt.

Norton’s sharp, ceramic abrasive grains and advanced grinding aid lubricant are said to enable significantly faster, cooler, burn-free grinding. A flexible but strong, heavy cotton backing wears evenly, which delivers chatter-free cutting action, longer life for less changeovers and provides flexibility for the application while eliminating aggressive sanding action. A full resin bond system promotes elevated grain retention, which increases product life.

Norton Blaze R920 flap wheels support close tolerances when finishing curved, contoured and hard-to-reach areas and are available in both spindle-mount and arbor hole designs. The spindle-mounted flap wheels are said to give a controlled rate of wear, exposing new grains, making them ideal for uneven surfaces and a cost-effective replacement for brushes, rubber points and felt bobs. With shanks that run through the center of the wheel, spindle-mounted flap wheels offer improved balance and reduce chatter and operator fatigue.

The flap wheels are available in 1", 2", 3", with ¼" steel shank sizes and 6" × 1" × 1" arbor hole. Additional sizes and grits are available custom made to exact requirements.
