The ZnCoat line of zinc-rich coatings for ferrous metals developed by NOF Metal Coatings North America and Curtis Metal Finishing is designed to provide corrosion resistance without hydrogen embrittlement. The coatings are available in silver, yellow and black varieties, and are suited for applications in industries such as construction, heavy equipment and agriculture.

According to the company, the coatings offer several advantages for high-strength fasteners compared with electroplated zinc. In addition to decreased risk of hydrogen embrittlement, they are both hexavalent- and trivalent-chromium-free. Other features include self-healing properties for protection against tool damage at installation and abrasion in service; improved cyclical-corrosion performance and UV-weathering resistance; consistent frictional characteristics; and compatibility with nylon patches, adhesives and sealants.
