A Special Message from Dymax Corporation

SpeedMask maskant is applied to turbine blade cooling holes for protection during airflow testing.

SpeedMask® Temporary Masking Resins Replace Tape, Wax, and Laquers and Provide Reliable Protection from Service Environments

Dymax SpeedMask resins are a line of temporary masking materials used for applications involving chemical processes, media finishing, coatings, and manufacturing aids. Dymax sells a complete line of masking resins for turbine components and power generationcomponents. They are also used in the surface treatment and enhancement operations of orthopedic implants, implant hardware, surgical instruments, and medical devices.

SpeedMask ®products are designed to coat and adhere to surfaces to assure reliable protection during tumbling, peening, abrading, grinding, grit blasting and from chemical solutions. They replace time consuming finishing process such as tape, lacquer and wax application, resulting in reduced part failure and increased productivity.

Light-curable SpeedMask  temporary masking resins offer manufacturers the following benefits:

  • Cure in seconds upon exposure to UV/Visible light, enabling faster processing, greater throughput, and lower manufacturing costs
  • Residue-free removal through peeling, burning off, or dissolving in water
  • The ability to be applied by spraying, dipping, or coating
  • Full compliance with the RoHS Directives 2002/95/EC and 2003/11/EC
  • No nonreactive solvents

SpeedMask resins seal cavity openings and prevent contamination from acid, alkaline and plating solutions, as well as the debris from air plasma spray, HVOF, peening and grit blasting. Tenacious adhesion seals and protects machined, ground, or polished surfaces during tumbling, peening, abrading or cleaning processes. Grinding and peening masks eliminate external damage to edges and surfaces and internal cavity FOD.

Typical processes include:

Chemical Processes: Acid Stripping / Anodizing / Plating / Chemical Milling
Coatings: Air Plasma Spray / Painting and Powder Coating
Metal Finishing: Grit Blasting / Shot Peening / Vibratory Finishing
Parts Handling: General Masking
Manufacturing Aids: Machining / Airflow Testing

KEY TECHNOLOGIES

SpeedMask temporary masking resins offer reliable surface protection not available from traditional masking materials such as tapes, lacquers, and waxes. They are used in surface preparation and finishing operations where a barrier is needed to protect surfaces and cavities. SpeedMask resins are quickly applied and easily removed. They are used in the aerospace, power generation, and metal finishing industries, and in the manufacture of orthopaedic implants and medical devices.

Dymax adhesives with patented See-Cure technology have built-in cure validation that makes it easy for operators, or simple automated inspection equipment, to confirm cure without investing in additional specialized equipment. See-Cure technology intentionally transitions the color of the adhesive after it has cured and builds a visible safety factor into the assembly process.

Dymax Ultra-Red™ fluorescing technology enhances bond-line inspection processes. Ultra-Red™ adhesives remain clear until exposed to low-intensity UV light at which point they fluoresce bright red, contrasting well on plastics that naturally fluoresce blue.
Dymax offers LED light-curable adhesives for use with Dymax LED UV/Visible light-curing systems. The adhesives range from fast to ultra-fast cure speeds to accommodate specific medical device, electronic, and industrial assembly needs.

The BlueWave® 200 and BlueWave® 75 high-intensity light-curing spot lamps feature an intensity adjustment that provides user control of light intensity to assist in process validation and control. The lamps primarily emit UVA and blue visible light (300-450nm) and are designed for light curing of adhesives, coatings, and encapsulants.

The BlueWave® LED Prime UVA and BlueWave® LED DX-1000 LED  curing systems offer many advantages over conventional spot-curing systems including no bulbs to change, cool cures, no warm-up, and constant intensity for thousands of hours. The lamps generate curing energy using high-intensity LEDs for curing coatings and adhesive bonding of glass, metal, and plastic substrates.
