Finishing at FABTECH 2018

CCAI’s Finishing Pavilion and Finishing Education Program shouldn’t be missed if you are looking for success in the industry.

Checking out and investing in products and services, learning from industry experts, and networking. That is what FABTECH is all about. After a wildly successful show in Chicago last year, the 2018 event returns to Atlanta, where the Chemical Coaters Association International debuted its Finishing Pavilion and Education Program eight years ago.

FABTECH 2018, North America’s largest metal forming, fabricating, welding and finishing event, will be held November 6-8, at the Georgia World Congress Center, and finishing professionals will have abundant opportunity to see the latest in finishing equipment, materials and auxiliary supplies; enhance their skills; and exchange best practices.

With just a few weeks to go until the show opens its doors, the Finishing Pavilion is sold out at nearly 200 exhibitors who will share more than 650,000 net square feet of space with more than 1,300 other exhibitors showcasing everything from welding to forming to fabricating to stamping. About 35,000 attendees are expected to visit the show floor to peruse all the products, services, innovative ideas and equipment exhibitors in the Finishing Pavilion will be showcasing.

Perhaps you’re thinking that you could cover all that ground in a single day at the three-day show, but CCAI Executive Director Anne Goyer advises against that. In addition to the exhibits is the CCAI Finishing Education Program and several special events.

“You can’t explore the show floor, participate in education sessions and attend our special events in one day,” she says. “There are so many things to see and do at FABTECH that you need two or three days to visit with exhibitors, attend sessions that are important to you and enjoy networking events that allow you to meet other attendees.”

The finishing education lineup is printed on the following pages, but you can review all the sessions and presentations in greater detail on the FABTECH website at fabtechexpo.com under Education or on the CCAI website at ccaiweb.com.

CCAI is offering a 30 percent discount on any of its finishing educational sessions. Use promotion code FINISHING30 when you register, or if you have already registered for the show without signing up for education sessions, you can go back into your registration and add sessions using the promo code.

“I’ve been amazed to watch the growth of CCAI’s Finishing Pavilion since we first partnered with FABTECH in 2010,” Goyer says. “We have continually worked to diversify our educational offerings and bring new and innovative presentations to the finishing sessions. Our comprehensive program and show floor for all finishing industry segments makes FABTECH the place where the finishing industry comes together each year.”

Following are some highlights of the show:

Keynote Presentations

• FABx Tech Talks – Embracing the popular TED concept, FABTECH 2018 kicks off on Tuesday, November 6, with a unique format for the opening keynote, spotlighting visionary leaders who hope to motivate and inspire attendees via short inspirational talks on the topics of transformation, growth, advancement and expansion for the future of manufacturing.

• What a Ride: Life, Family, Community and the Race Track with Kyle Petty – Kyle Petty is considered by many to be an auto racing icon, a champion of philanthropy and one of the most popular personalities in all of sports. His presentation on Wednesday, November 7, will take the audience on an anecdotal journey through his life as a businessman and philanthropist and as one of NASCAR’s most respected drivers. He will explore consistently striving for excellence, living up to your promises, teamwork, community and commitment to family.

• Make Way for Gen Z! – Who is Generation Z? What has shaped them? What are their expectations about careers and the workplace? What is it going to take to get this generation in the door, on board and up to speed? Best-selling author and generations expert David Stillman teams up with his Generation Z son Jonah in Thursday’s keynote address to shed light on what makes this generation tick.

Industry Night

Tuesday evening promises fun, food, drinks and networking just steps from the Georgia World Congress Center at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home to the Atlanta Falcons. This event will include exclusive access to the field, on-field activities, stadium tours, and a keynote and meet-and-greet with legendary former football player and coach Steve Spurrier.

Women of FABTECH Breakfast

This networking event on Wednesday morning includes breakfast and will feature Laura Cox Kaplan, host and creator of the “She Said, She Said” podcast, who will interview BASF VP Veronica Braker about her 25-year career and her passion for increasing women in technical roles. A technology tour on the show floor concludes the event.

Women in Finishing Reception

This reception will be hosted by CCAI in its booth (B4700) on Wednesday afternoon and is intended to be an opportunity for women specifically in the finishing industry to network and socialize with their peers.
