Q. We are planning to apply powder coating over cast iron drains that will be cemented into the floor. We have used epoxy liquid paint for this application, but we are interested in switching to epoxy powder. Will the powder adhere to the cast iron material? C.H.

A. Yes, epoxy powder will adhere very well over cast iron. It is critical to prepare any surface you plan to coat to help promote adhesion and performance. Dirt, oil and oxidation must be removed using a suitable chemical cleaning process or abrasion. All loose dust and other soils have to be thoroughly removed. If you prepare the surface correctly, the powder will work well.
