Since its inception as a family-owned, single-service shop in 1978, Bales has grown to be a resource for manufacturers seeking a multitude of options to protect the life of industrial molds, dies, tooling and components.

Four decades ago, brothers Steve and Mike Bales started the business to provide quality mold polishing. As project complexity and demands expanded, so did the services they offered. They saw rapid growth and expanded to more than 15 coating, polishing and value-added services. Today, the second generation of the Bales family says it continues to lead the company forward by embracing a culture of empowered employees who strive to tackle the most challenging customer projects.
In addition to an array of coatings and finishes, including proprietary offerings such as Nibore, Nicklon and Diamond EN, customers can now receive added services such as stainless steel passivation, masking, stripping, barrel and rack plating and X-ray certification.
“We’re committed to the future of our industry and are currently taking steps to tackle even more complex projects that were previously serious challenges for our customers,” says Sara Mortensen, vice president.
This includes a planned million-dollar investment in the company’s infrastructure and employee culture to increase production flow, expand the in-house wet lab for more precise and real-time analysis, and create a new collaboration area for staff.
