November Issue: Lincoln Industries, Pretreatments, Ag Powder Coatings and Parts Cleaning.
The November issue looks at the growth of Lincoln Industries, how pretreatment nails a finish, quick-change for ag powder coating applications, and solutions to parts cleaning.
Here’s a look at some of the top stories in the November issue of Products Finishing:
Acquisitions Spur Lincoln Industries' Continued Growth: 2018 could be called a year of acquisitions for Lincoln Industries. In May, the Nebraska finisher purchased several affiliated Wisconsin-based businesses, including Southwest Metal Finishing, Inventix Manufacturing and Southwest Manufacturas De Mexico. Southwest Metal Finishing in New Berlin is a decorative chrome plating and metal finishing company focused on zinc and aluminum die cast finishing, and also has facilities in Texas and Mexico with Southwest Manufacturas De Mexico, a polishing and plating operation. Inventix Manufacturing in Menomonee Falls produces zinc and aluminum die castings.
Pretreatment Helps Nailor Industries Hammer Home Better Finishes: First impressions are everything when it comes to surface finishing and Adam Bick from Nailor Industries knew right away that a change in its pretreatment was going to work out just fine. “It was instant,” says Bick, paint division manager for the Houston, Texas, manufacturer of commercial and industrial HVAC products. “The minute we turned our electrocoat system back on, we knew we were getting better adhesion and better film build. It was obvious.”
Test to Find Answers to a Cleaning Solution Dilemma: Although there is not one cleaning solution that is suitable for all industrial cleaning tasks, finding the best cleaning fluid for a specific application is possible by carrying out practical trials, backed up by lab analyses. Manufacturers must identify the most cost-effective solution for each individual cleaning application. Apart from the actual cleaning method, the entire production process (including the type of machining used as well as the transport and storage containers) must be taken into account. This article includes an analysis of three cleaning trials where both solvents and aqueous cleaning agents were tested. The results offer a clear picture of the best solution to use for each application.
Ag Machinery Maker Kemper Saves Time with Faster Color Change: Agricultural machinery manufacturer Kemper has gained an excellent reputation in its more than 100-year history. Many renowned manufacturers purchase their harvesting attachments from Germany-based Kemper, ranging from the parent company John Deere to New Holland, Agco and even Russian manufacturers. Kemper also manufactures header attachments for Claas and Krone forage harvester, and supplies them to the market.
Steps to Take Control of Wastewater Treatment: Wastewater treatment has become an increasingly critical part of plant operations over the last decade, and manufacturing companies across all industrial sectors are prioritizing the reduction of water consumption. At the heart of any system is the equipment. For finishing shops that are concerned about the impact their wastewater has on both the environment and their bottom line, there are a variety of available options, each designed to perform specific types of treatment and deliver a quick return on investment (ROI).
How it’s produced, NSS testing and how to get the best results possible.
The cornerstone of quality and productivity for any finishing operation, process control is a plater’s key to success. To find out how far techniques have come, where they’re headed in the future, and how platers can raise the bar, Products Finishing convened a panel of experts for a roundtable discussion on the topic. With well over 100 years of combined plating experience, experts Greg Arneson, Art Kushner, Peter Gallerani and Joelie Zak share their thoughts.
Question: I am new to this industry and have heard about smut and desmutting operations.
