NASA’s  Mars 2020 mission successfully launched at 7:50 a.m. EST on July 30. The Mars rover, known as Perseverance, will search for signs of ancient life and will cache rock and soil samples for possible return to Earth.

To protect Perseverance, a special paint job is needed. The below video shows how NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) prepares the Mars rover’s surface to stand up to the extreme temperatures and the harsh environment of the red planet.
