Denise Diaz’s video, “Saving Bob,” depicts how the world is better because of plating because things last longer when protected by plated material.

The MFASC and the National Association for Surface Finishing sponsored the competition amongst students at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Three students from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena were awarded $15,000 in scholarships in the West Coast Bright Design Challenge, which was incorporated into the college's Material Explorations class.

Diaz won for developing the animation/mascot/infomercial for the plating industry. Andrew Walton won for his innovative plated wine labeling system, while Shang-Ye (Juno) Chen won for developing the patentable process using plated textiles.

At the end of the class, students presented finished 3-D prototypes and presentations to a panel of faculty and MFASC judges.
