Hitachi High-Tech Analytical Science says that the aerospace sector is under huge pressure to make changes to be more environmentally friendly and that could help the plating industry.

In a blog post on its website, Hitachi High-Tech Analytical Science says that airlines are looking at “reducing the weight of the aircraft and increasing the efficiency of the engine itself. Both of these approaches impact the materials used on the aircraft, including plated components.”

They go on to say that “there are so many plated components that shaving fractions of microns off the plating thickness of each component does add up. As long as it doesn’t reduce the lifetime of the part, the thinner the coating the better.”
