Former Plate Shop Owner Bill Franke Passes

Franke owned and operated Franke Plating Inc. in Angola, Indiana, for more than 35 years, from the late 1950s until 1991, when his son, Warren, took the reigns.

William "Bill" J. Franke, 86, passed away on February 6. He owned and operated Franke Plating Inc. in Angola, Indiana, for more than 35 years, from the late 1950s until 1991, when his son, Warren, took the reigns. Franke retired in 1995, and Warren still runs the shop today.

Franke, who attended Purdue University, was a member of the Indiana Association of Metal Finishers, National Association of Metal Finishers, ASM Material Education Foundation and the AES Foundation.

He is survived by four sons: Wesley of Angola; Wade (Karen) of Fort Wayne; Wynn (Nicholette [deceased]) of New Caney,Texas; and Warren (Lisa) of Roanoke; as well as 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one on the way; and sister Helen E. Cunningham of Tempe, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia, daughter Kellie Marie and son William Jeff.

A memorial service was held Feb. 28. Memorials may be made to Trinity English Lutheran Church or Shriner's Hospitals for Children (shrinershospitalsforchildren.org).
