The most profitable shops in the Products Finishing Top Shops Benchmarking Survey are the ones that spend the most on capital expenditures as a percentage of gross sales.

The 2018 survey shows that Top Shops spent about 10 percent of gross sales on capital equipment, while other shops spent around 3 percent. The average was 7.6 percent, and the mean was 5 percent.
