Madison Chemical offers a full-color brochure that details its alkaline soak cleaners and other products for hot-dip galvanizing operations, including acid pickle inhibitors, flux tank additives and foam blanket additives for acid pickle.

According to the company, these formulations, unlike 100-percent caustic soda, include wetting agents that lower the surface tension of the use solution and allow it to penetrate the cracks in the layers of scale more quickly and to a greater degree. The chemical reactions that occur as the pickling acid penetrates add to the efficiency of scale removal.
