BYK-Gardner’s BYK-mac spectrophotometers include data analysis software with a “smart-chart” feature that is designed to distribute digital master standards within the whole supplier chain. According to the company, color standards previously had to be measured by individual color instruments using multiple sets of master panels. This process was time consuming and increased the number of errors because of poor or varying master panels.
The BYK-mac uses LED light sources for precise and repeatable measurement results and inter-instrument agreement, the company says. This enables the spectral data of a standard to be digitally transferred to other BYK-mac instruments by defining this color standard as “master” in the Standard Management module of the smart-chart. The master standard can be exported and imported as a file and sent by email to production sites and suppliers.
