Röchling Foamlite P is a closed-cell, foamed polypropylene (PP) material that is said to weigh 30 percent less than similar PP materials, and have improved mechanical, insulating and chemical-resistance properties. It is well-suited for typical PP applications like chemical and wastewater tanks, fume exhaust hoods, and chemical benches and sinks, however, its lightweight construction also makes it a suitable replacement for heavier materials like wood, the company says.

The material is ultraviolet-stabilized for outdoor use and maintains good rigidity, but it also exhibits flexural fatigue strength. This allows it to be routered to create an integrated hinge that will bend and flex more than 40,000 times without breaking, eliminating the need for metal hinges that are subject to corrosion, the company says.

Foamlite P can also be machined and welded with matching Röchling welding rods and is available in multiple thicknesses, colors and surface finishes. Sheet thicknesses range from 6 to 21 mm.
