BASF Corp. says its scratch-resistant iGloss clearcoat technology combines the flexible, elastic finish and strong weathering resistance of inorganic components with the high scratch resistance of inorganic glass-like nanoclusters. This combination allows the clearcoat to repair minor scratches via “instant reflow,” where it essentially springs back from external pressures, such as from the bristles of a car wash brush, the company says.

In addition to this ability to repair minor scratches, the technology also is designed to offer increased scratch and weathering resistance.
