NASF Opens Nominations for 2022 Industry Awards

The National Association for Surface Finishing announces the opening of nominations for its 2022 Finishing Industry Awards.

The National Association for Surface Finishing (NASF) has opened nominations for its 2022 Industry Awards recognizing the leadership of those in the finishing industry who have dedicated a great deal of their time to ensure a strong association and vibrant industry. The nomination deadline is May 1, 2022.

NASF offers the following descriptions for the awards:

  • NASF Presidential Award – Focuses on the extraordinary service put forth by an NASF member who is actively participating on a local and national level, going above and beyond the capacity of most.
  • Taormina Award – One of NASF's most prestigious awards, recipients are elected by the industry and presented to individuals who have performed outstanding service to the finishing industry. Award winners over the years have been among the most dedicated who have consistently improved the industry.
  • August P. Munning Award – The August P. Munning award is given to a Supplier member who, in the opinion of his/her peers, has significantly contributed to the future well-being of the Association and who exemplifies the traits of August P. Munning - his great interest, hard work, dedicated, and selfless devotion to the metal finishing industry.
  • Award of Merit – The Award of Merit is given to members of the industry who show meritorious service and achievement on both the local and national levels.
  • Scientific Achievement Award – This award recognizes a person who has contributed to the advancement of the theory and practice of electroplating, metal finishing and allied arts, has raised the quality of process and products, has enhanced the dignity and status of the profession, or has been involved in a combination of these. The first recipient of this award was Dr. William Blum, Sr., who was instrumental in the establishment of the fundamental research in the industry.
  • NASF Fellow – The NASF Fellow recognizes outstanding service, contribution, and long-standing commitment to NASF for the advancement of the best interest of the finishing industry. Modeled after the AESF Fellow award that was established in 1997, this prestigious honor received its inaugural recipients in 2016.

  • Development of a Novel Hexavalent-Chromium-Free Aluminum Sacrificial Paint

    Hexavalent chromium is a known carcinogen, repro-toxin, and mutagen. Its elimination is of high importance to the aerospace industry, which has struggled to find high performing alternatives. Legacy aluminum sacrificial paints have traditionally utilized hexavalent chromium to prevent corrosion and coatings which are equal to or better than have been difficult. This first paper discusses the novel process from the supplier point-of-view.
