Question:
In your June 1999 Painting Clinic you talked about dirt coming from the conveyor. We are having problems with falling dirt. Our main problem is cleaning between the links. The only means we have right now of cleaning the conveyor is on-line brushes. We would like to know if there are any other ways. P.L.
Answer:
There is more to conveyor chain cleaning than on-line stationary brushes. In the chapter, “Coating Lines” starting on page 49 of the 2000 products finishing directory and technology guide, there is a section on chain cleaners. It mentions other chain cleaning devices such as air and water blasts, heat, and rotating brushes.
The type and amount of painting residue accumulating on a conveyor chain depends on the type and amount of paint applied. In your case, this residue is not being removed by the stationary brushes. Perhaps it would be wise to install rotating brushes or pyrollyze the residue to remove it. Don’t take my word for it; ask the people who make them. Suppliers of Conveyor Cleaning Equipment are listed on page 383 of the same directory.
