The Electrocoat Association continues its Finisher’s Guide to Electrocoat webinar series with “Advanced Pretreatment.” On November 15, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. (EST), David George, Henkel, & Suresh Patel, BASF/Chemetall, will build on the information covered in the “Basic Pretreatment” webinar and delve deeper into the function of the individual pretreatment stages to offer a deeper understanding of the stages/chemistry. Additionally, they will discuss the interaction and control required for each pretreatment stage to ensure a fluent, robust process when coating multiple substrates, alongside troubleshooting/countermeasures for common issues encountered. Current and future pretreatment trends and end-customer expectations (quality, sustainability, cost savings, etc.) will be discussed, along with technologies available to meet these expectations. Finally, they will discuss pretreatment equipment, design considerations, and bath control to ensure efficient operation.

Suresh Patel has made numerous presentations to trade organizations and companies, including Powder Coating, Fabtech, STLE, SFM-MX and ECOAT conferences. During his 30 years of service at Chemetall, he has been involved with large corporations like GI, Auto OEMs, Auto Comps and other segments related to their approvals and processes.

In his 33 years with Henkel, David George has held various positions within The Automotive Technical Services Group including, Director, as well as Global Technical Sales Manager and head of Henkel’s Automotive Training Program. Throughout his career, he has given numerous presentations to trade organizations including Fabtech, SURCAR, CCAI and The Electrocoat Association. David currently provides technical expertise and support for automotive OEMs’ conversion coating processes, focusing on innovations in metal pretreatment technology.
