Rebecca Bennett from Precision Plating received the 2017 Bertram A. Stone Award from the Chicago Midwest Chapter (CMC) of the NASF.

Established in 1994, the Bertram A. Stone Award was the summit award of the CMC of the NASF, formerly the Chicago Metal Finishing Institute. The award is bestowed on an individual who has performed outstanding service to the finishing industry locally and/or nationally. Nominations are submitted by the membership, and final award winners are selected by the awards committee.

Bennett is the director of Chemical and Environmental Compliance at Precision Plating, and is on the board of directors of the NASF and on the Chicago Midwest Chapter of NASF.

Bennett maintains the solution chemistries for the electroplating operations for Precision Plating, monitors the effluent discharge of the wastewater pretreatment system per the categorical limits set by the U.S. EPA and the Appendix B limits set by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRDGC). She also completes the required environmental forms for the USEPA, IEPA, MWRDGC, and City of Chicago Department of Environment. Other responsibilities include conducting the safety training and Resource, Conservation, and Recovery Act (RCRA) training for all the employees of PPC, as well as serving as head of the first aid team and hazmat Team.

  • A Process for Alkaline Non-cyanide Silver Plating for Direct Plating on Copper, Copper Alloys and Nickel Without a Silver Strike Bath

Traditionally, silver is electroplated in toxic, cyanide-based chemistry.  Due to cyanide’s extreme hazard to human health and environments, developing non-cyanide silver chemistry is essential for the silver electroplating industry.  Discussed here is an aqueous, alkaline non-cyanide silver plating technology, which can be directly plated over nickel as well as copper and its alloys.  The silver deposits have perfect white color and better anti-tarnishing properties than other non-cyanide silver processes.  The silver is plated entirely from the dissolving silver anode and the bath is very stable, and maintains a stable pH level both during plating and idle time.  This new non-cyanide silver technology will plate bright silver that is perfectly suitable for electronic, industrial and decorative applications.    .
